Library Staff Collaboration on Facebook

We've been looking mainly at conceptual approaches and analysis of how library staff do and could use social media for the better of their system and communities. However, through the magic of co-worker recommendation, I have recently discovered a Facebook Group created by and for library staff interested in social media.

Libraries & Social Media is a public group on social media where staff can connect, brainstorm, and collaborate via the very medium of communication they seek to master. I am in love with how meta this is! As soon as I heard about the group, I submitted a request to join, and now I'm in! But what kinds of things are staff discussing?

Bots

The most recent post is a poll for staff to consider how they might use bots to improve their social media presence. Mainly, this move is focused on chatbots, which would be helpful for services such as texting to renew materials, and subscribing to texting services for getting info easier.

Creations

Many libraries use this space as a platform for putting out some of their most recent social media creations and endeavors for peer review and enjoyment.

Open Forum

This space is also an excellent place for staff to ask each other for recommendations and assistance. Many a post is someone asking for application and program recommendations for their next social media task. Others are asking for feedback or collaboration on projects.

Information Sharing

This is also a place for library staff to share info with each other that they find is relevant to libraries in social media. There are a smattering of posts about Cambridge Analytica, other  library social media pages going mad with power (sheep power), different SMM (Social Media Marketing) tactics, and articles about how libraries are serving their communities.

Overall, I am happy that this group exists, and proud of the fact that library staff are encouraging and supporting each other in this collaborative online space. I can't wait to be a part of it!
